One of the most frustrating aspects of Identity Theft Is that, unlike other crimes in the United States, victims are guilty until proven innocent. Victims are responsible for releasing their names and protesting fraudulent debts. Resolving IDTheft issues is complicated. Once you have become a victim, it can be an overwhelming task to maneuver through information and determine the steps you must complete to resolve your particular ID Theft issues. You may experience difficulty finding the right sources of information on the Web or the correct phone number or mailing address for the agencies you must report to in your area. Adapting templates or composing letters to describe your specific situation can also be a cumbersome task. In addition, documenting all your efforts and maintaining a record for follow up is a part of the remediation process that can become a time-consuming nightmare if done without assistance. It is traumatic enough to be a victim of ID Theft or Fraud without the pressure and hassle of learning what to do and resolving the issue yourself. The victim should not be expected to do it all without guidance or assistance. The counselors at CCCSSA have been trained to listen to your situation and partner with you to help resolve your Identity Theft situation. Whether you are simply overwhelmed by the crime and want someone you can trust to complete the steps to remediation for you or you want to stay involved and do it yourself, CCCSSA counselors can help you determine the level of assistance that best addresses your needs.
1. Self Help Initial Meeting (45 to 90 minutes)A Certified Consumer Credit Counselor will meet with the individual, listen to their situation and obtain all necessary information, then offer the client a resolution process that the client can do themselves. This process will offer instructions with correct phone numbers and addresses for contacting the necessary agencies as well as templates and forms to complete and mail or website addresses to access more information. The client will also be provided information on how to obtain a free credit report.
2. Assisted Help Initial Meeting (60 to 120 minutes)A Certified Consumer Credit Counselor will meet with the individual, listen to their situation and obtain all necessary information. The victim and the counselor will then determine the degree of assistance the victim requires. An action plan and agreement will be completed and the counselor will provide a "to do" list for the client. All other tasks will be completed by the Certified Consumer Credit Counselor.
3. Full Service Initial Meeting (60 to 120 minutes)At some point during the initial session, the customer may determine they prefer either more assistance or even that the counselor take care of everything. The CCCSSA staff will complete all letters, phone calls, etc. on the victim's behalf. However, the victim is required to complete some tasks in person. |
